Flash Cards

This page offers some 80 flash cards with the topic of project management which may aid you in preparing for your exam.

flash cards

I've made these flash cards while preparing for my certification as a Project Management Associate (IPMA Level D, that is). I've used them as my sole learning aid while preparing for both the written and the oral exams. I'd like to offer them here because they might prove useful for someone.

Generally I wouldn't recommend relying on those downloadable flash cards as your sole source for learning. I'd suggest paying attention during the training courses and having a look into some book or other before attempting the exams. These flash cards should only serve as some rather rough guideline and as an aid to objectively assess the grade of your own preparedness.

I think you're prepared reasonably well if you're able to freely explain each of the cards for a minute or two without leaving out any important bullet point.

In addition to the flash cards listed here it'll make sense to be able to apply all the methods and procedures you've learned during the training courses. Most of these are not mentioned on the cards. Among those are:

  • defining goals

  • analysing the environment, assessing stakeholders and risks

  • project phases

  • creating and encoding a structured plan

  • scheduling, including network plans and Gantt charts

  • planning and optimising resources

  • project costs

  • milestone trend analysis

Download

The cards are available as PDF files, each containing 8 cards with front and back side. Even if they look sorted in some manner, they really are not.

flash cards
  • page 1 -- from the magic triangle to environment

  • page 2 -- from smart goals to a communications matrix

  • page 3 -- from risks to scheduling

  • page 4 -- from float to change management

  • page 5 -- from document management to claim management

  • page 6 -- from impairment of performance to earned value

  • page 7 -- from cost forecast to the Ishikawa diagram

  • page 8 -- from conflicts to management styles

  • page 9 -- from hierarchy of needs to a balanced scorecard

  • page 10 -- from a Deming chain to criteria for assessing organisational forms

Printing and Cutting

To use these flash cards effectively, I'd recommend printing them (double-sided and in color!) on somewhat sturdy cardboard. The PDFs are in A4 format and the cards are centered horizontally. So if your printer complains about overran margins or something, you can use the option Auto-rotate and center within the Adobe Reader -- the front and back sides of the cards should still match after printing.

Feedback

If these flash cards should have helped you passing your Level D exams or should they have caused you to fail (which would be pretty dumb of you), I'd like to hear about it. So please give me some Feedback.
